Art Agenda 2030: Addressing the sustainable development goals through art.

What is our world going to look like in 2030? The exhibition Art Agenda 2030 opens conversations about the UN Sustainable Development Goals through art, while celebrating the 75th anniversary of the UN. Our installation Grown Home was exhibited at the Finlandia Hall as part of this exhibition, which took place in Helsinki 19-25th of October 2020. The installation will stay at the venue until the end of November.

Can we grow our homes from sustainable materials that use waste as their nutrition, while providing food to the people? With the help of an old friend, fungi, we can bind agricultural and industrial waste into functional materials that produce edible and medicinal mushrooms as by-products. All the objects were made from oyster and turkey tail mycelium grown on sawdust and wood chip. Halfway through the event, mushrooms started popping out from the objects.

The installation touches on some of the UN’s SDGs including 9-Industry, innovation and infrastructure, 11-Sustainable cities and communities, 12-Responsible consumption and production and 2-Zero hunger.

Thanks Tania Malréchauffé for the photos and Helsieni for the mushroom columns.
