Mycelium meets concrete.

The installation hosts a collection of objects grown from mycelium, combined with elements of concrete, creating a conversation between materials of the past, present and future. The objects hint at a future where our harmful practices are taken over by nature-inspired processes, creating a more harmonious coexistence between nature and man. One of the leaders of this transition is fungi, an organism that can be grown into sustainable materials that consume waste during their production and provide food as a by-product.

The collection fit well at the freshly renovated Helsinki Olympic Stadium, where it was shown as part of the Helsinki Design Week Main Exhibition of 2020. Thanks Helsieni for lending us the awesome reishi grown in a glass cylinder, and Vertti Virasjoki for all the production help and pics!

The exploration started from these experiments.
