Foraging for Function

Installation at Chappe Museum, Tammisaari

Foraging for Function is a collection of objects that reflect on the naturally occurring symbiosis of trees and fungi. The objects are made from wood and mycelium, with the remaining sawdust from our woodworking process being used as substrate (food for fungi) to grow the mycelium. By doing so, we try to imitate the flux occurring in nature - everything goes to use, there is no waste!

The works were shown as part of the Climate & Art – Alternative Approaches exhibition at Chappe, a new art museum in Tammisaari, South West Finland.

The installation questions the manufacturing methods and our relationship to the objects we surround ourselves with. Thanks to everyone who played a part in bringing these objects to life: Tatiana Rubiano, Ellinor Werner, Sushant Passi, Lova Norgren, Mattia Anderle, Lorin von Longo-Liebenstein, Kääpä Biotech.
